Competition advocates urge further delays with privacy sandbox
Last week we wrote about how Privacy Sandbox testing had been going and this week, our founder Wayne, was quoted in a Digiday article about the Sandbox. See below.
“Google had so much presence [with third-party cookies] across the web, and now [under Sandbox proposals] everyone has access to the same APIs,” he said, claiming there is now a tacit admission among many in the industry that third-party cookies are not privacy-safe.
We are very bullish on browser & app store based mechanisms for digital advertising. Whilst the industry continues to take shots at Google - Apple, Microsoft and Firefox have all built API based mechanisms for measurement and targeting into their browsers with much less debate. We have seen that the browsers are reasonably collaborative (a - through PATCG and b - they have similar-ish approaches) and thus this train will not be stopped.
Impact believes that users controlling their privacy choices via the browser is sensible and that some of the alternatives do not adhere to the spirit of regulation (understanding and choice).
Alternatives could be shut off at any moment in time, but at least with Sandbox they are working hand in hand with regulators and the industry. We are very supportive of this.
